Not far from the the north gate of Beijing Zoo, there is a temple with five pagodas inside, thus the temple is popularly known as the Five-Pagoda Temple.
The temple was first constructed during the Yongle years (1403 - 1424) of the Ming Dynasty and completed in 1473, was initially known as Zhenjue Temple. After many renovations, In 1982, it reopened to the public as the Five-Pagoda Temple.
The main architecture of the Five-Pagoda Temple is based on the Indian construction Diamond Throne Pagoda, five pagodas stand on a square foundation which known as the throne. But the Five-Pagoda Temple also has its own unique style fusing the Indian pattern with traditional Chinese architectural art and carving.
