The Temple of Recumbent Buddha (Wofo Si) is Shi Fang Ou Jue Temple, because of the huge recumbent statue of Sakyamuni, this bronze recumbent Buddha is the biggest bronze recumbent Buddha in China, people used to call the temple as The Temple of Recumbent Buddha, Wofo Si is Chinese Pinyin.
The Temple of Recumbent Buddha is situated at the north foot of Xishan (Western Hill), east of the Xiangshan (Fragrant Hill), about 30 kilometers far from Beijing city. The temple was built during the Tang Dynasty, with more than 1300-year history, it is one of the most important Buddhist Temple in Beijing.
The Recumbent Buddha's Hall is one of the three main buildings of the temple, the bronze recumbent Buddha in the hall is 5.2-meter long, took bronze 25000 kilograms. The buddha is recumbent, with his right hand supports the head. It was said that this pose is Sakyamuni when he got nirvana. The other two main buildings are Four Heavenly King's Hall and Three Buddhas Hall. Inside the Four Heavenly King's Hall, a sitting statue of Maitreya is in the center, and Four Heavenly Kings are on the two sides of Maitreya. Three Buddhas in the Three Buddhas Hall, they are Burning Lamp Buddha, Sakyamuni and Maitreya, both sides of the three Buddhas are 18 color-clay-made Arhats.
