|The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum. In 1974, nine farmers discovered the Terra Cotta Warriors when they were sinking well.
The first pit was exhumed in 1974. It is 210 meters long, 60 meters wide and 4.6 to 6.5 meters deep. It contains more than 6,000 figures. These figures show the soldiers’ rank.
The second pit was found in 1976 and excavation started 1994. This pit contains 1,400 warriors. This pit also contains 64 chariots. They are divided into two parts.
The third pit was found in 1980. It is not very big, but the pit is thought to be the garrison headquarters of Qin army.
Altogether over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and even weapons have been unearthed from these pits. Most of them have been restored to their former grandeur. It was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as one of the world cultural heritages.
