Suzhou Tourist Site - Suzhou Tour

Suzhou is situated at the mouth of Yangtze River about 100 kilometers to Shanghai. It encompasses 5,838 square kilometers with a population of 6.35 million.
During Qing dynasty (1644-1911), Suzhou has a well-established silk industry produce woven and embroidered silk for the imperial household. The old part of town is a city of canals, humble backed bridges, low& white washed houses. Above all Suzhou has more than 100 exquisite gardens. The city is also the “museum of cultural relics.” Pagodas and ancient bridges are scattered around the city.

Suzhou tour to zhouzhuang.
Zhouzhuuang has a nickname which is “Oriental Venice.”Located to the east of Suzhou, the town of zhouzhuang was first builts by the King of Wu State during Spring and Autumn period (770-476BC).
Accounting to the Suzhou Tourism Bureau, they have invited all the best archaeologists in China to manage a deteriorating carved brick gate in Zhouzhuang, but none of them could handle the job. No living archaeologists has mastered this ancient skill. The bedrooms of Zhouzhuang residents remain cool enven in the hottest season, thanks to the mysterious structure of the old houses. Their window are inlaid not with glass, but with polished shells. The town benefits from the beauty of rivers and lakes. The town is on Daishan Lake of the Grand View Garden near Shanghai. Suzhou tour to Humble Administrator's Garden
The Humble Administrator's Garden in lush and distinctive garden is the largest one in the city. It's a residence for a poet in Tang dynasty, then converted into a temple in Yuan dynasty. During emperor Jiajing (1522-1566) in Ming dynasty, an imperial envoy named WangXianchen resigned and returned to his hometown. He bought it and changed it into Humble Administrator's Garden. After several times renovations, it opened to public by 1954. The present garden encompasses 1.867 hectares, and three-fifth of the garden is occupied by water.
The garden is made up of three sections which are east, west and central. The garden in the center is the most splendid and picturesque. Tourists can sit in the “Four-Sided” pavilion beside the lotus pond. Following a winding path up a small hill and at the top, tourist will find a wood tablet upon which is inscribed “Between Mountain Flowers and Wild Birds.” The subtle beauty of the garden, its lovely garden architecture and wealth of fine art capture of part of tourists' memory.
Suzhou tour to Hanshan Temple
Hanshan Temple is also called Cold Mountain Temple. There is a poem in Tang Dynasty (618-907) named "A Night Mooring near Maple Bridge" written by Zhang Ji. It described the midnight bell rings of the Hanshan Temple. Since then, it becomes famous, especially for its bell rings and Buddhism culture. Every year on New Year's Eve in China's lunar calendar, the bell is tolled to pray for the happiness and safety of the coming New Year.
This festival attracts thousands of tourists both at home and abroad. Until now, Hanshan Temple is still one of the most important places to hold Buddhism activities.
It was first built during the Liang Dynasty (502-519) which is 1,400 years ago.
Cold Mountain Temple caught fire 5 times in past years. The last re-construction proceed around 100 years ago. Covering an area of about 10,600 square meters. It includes the Grand Prayer Hall, Sutra-Collection Building, Bell Tower, Fengjiang Pavilion and Tablets Corridor, etc. In 1995, a five-storey Buddhism pagoda as high as 42 meters (about 138 feet) was erected called Puming Pagoda, which then became the symbolic building of the temple. There are many tablet inscriptions written by famous intellectuals of ancient China.
Suzhou tour to Lion Grove Garden
The Lion Grove was first constructed in the year of 1342. It's a small garden with truly exquisite design. Entering the garden the tourist will find stone lions in various interesting shapes. Looked at them closely, they're standing, lying, sitting, slinking, embracing a ball. The imaginative rockeries form a labyrinth of caves. Some are linked with each other and others are not. Those who are not familiar with these caves may easily lose their way running into dead ends of walking in circles.
Suzhou tour to Blue Wave Pavilion.
Blue Wave Pavilion encompasses 1.07 hectares. It's famed for its peaceful scenery and simple architecture which built 900 years ago in the period 1041 to 1048 by the poet SuZimei. The garden is a fine example showing how the natural landscape both inside and outside could be merged. Long corridors follow the banks of the green water pond just outside the garden. Turn toward the inner edge of the corridors and through the windows of the brick wall the tourist can see in the distance waving trees, bamboos and flowers among the rockeries and pavilions inside the garden. The most attractive scenery is 108 lattice windows set on each corridor walls at different pattern colors and structures. They are typical lattice windows of Suzhou classic gardens.
Suzhou tour to Fishing Master's Garden
This was a scholar's garden, named after its Fisherman's hermitage. It occupies 2,179 square meters. The garden is small with less building, but it's neat and magnificent. The rockery area takes one third of garden. The whole scenery is dominated by Rockery, and little pond as supplement. The rockery has critical path, caves, valleys, cliffs, and flying beams. No wonder the fishing master's Garden it's listed a typical Suzhou garden as the various and changeable rockeries.
Suzhou tour to Tiger Hill.
Outside Suzhou at Tiger Hill an ancient King of Wu Kingdom named Helu in the late years of Spirng and Autumn period (770-476 BC) is said to have been buried some 2,500 years ago with his treasures such as three thousand famous swords, stores of gold and jade. One hundred thousand civilians were involved in the construction of the tomb. Elephants were used for transportation stones and earth. The tomb is secret built and the entrance is still undiscovered.
The most famous spot inside is Huqiu Pagoda, which was built on the top of Tiger Hill over a thousand years ago. The pagoda caught fire on seven occasions. The top and eaves of each storey were damaged, only the brick structure remains. The 47 meters high pagoda is tilting now at an angle of 2.48 degrees. It has become a kind of trademark of SuZhou. If the tourist stands on hill and looks down at Sword Pond, it may be frightened. The King's tomb is at the bottom of the pond as well as two of this favourite sword, because the king was a zealous sword collector when he was alive.
Suzhou tour to Lingering Garden.
Lingering Garden is one of the cerebrated gardens in Suzhou. It was first built in Ming Dynasty by 1460, and encompasses 3.3 hectares. A 700 meters long corridor is winding throughout the garden, and on the walls of which are a great number of stone carvings and windows. Within the garden is “Yet Another Village,” there is a trellised grape vine canopy. The largest rock of south china was set inside the garden. It's 9 meters high, weights five tons and was transported from Lake Tai about four hundred years ago. It's named as “Cloud Capped Peak” for its height and outlook. This kind of limestone was quarried from mountains around the lake and sunk in it where they stayed, eroding into strange shapes with cavities and grooves. These rocks were often used in the landscaping of many famous gardens in China.
Suzhou tour to Temple of Mystery
Temple of Mystery named Xuanmiao Taoist Temple in Chinese. It's located on the Guanqian Street which is the main business street in Suzhou. It's first built in 276 AD around 1,700 years ago. Temple of Mystery has more than 30 halls in its heyday. It's the biggest nationwide Taoist Temple at that time. After many times renovation, now it consists of Shan Men, Main Hall, Chamber Hall and 21 side halls.
Arriving at the Temple of Mystery, tourists first see Zheng Shan Men (a wooden structured temple). Go to the Pure Trinity Hall which is the main hall of this temple. In the hall stand statues of the trinity San Qing (three Pure Gods) for people to worship. In the middle is Yu Qing (Jade Pure). On either side of Yu Qing stand Shang Qing (Upper Pure) and Tai Qing (Great Pure). The three statues are gold-gilded clay sculptures, each with a height of about 7 meters (23 feet). They look solemn and imposing as if they were still alive. On the left of the three statues stands the figure of Lao-tzu who was the founder of Taoism as well as a great thinker during the spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-476 BC).
Other halls including the Caishen Hall (Hall of the God of Wealth) and the Wenchang Hall are also worth visiting.
Suzhou tour to Northern Temple Pagoda
The North Temple Pagoda was first constructed during Three States period by Eastern Wu Emperor Suan Quan for his wet nurse. After several times reconstruction and rebuilt, the history has lasted more than 1,700 years. The North Temple Pagoda is a Buddhist building in nine floors with eight sides each. This 76 meters high pagoda which made by wood and brick is the highest pagoda in Suzhou. Same style as Liuhe pagoda in Huangzhou, it has double eaves and flying corners. Its body consists of the outer corridors, the inner corridors and the square rooms in the center. Visitors can walk up along the wooden stairs in the internal corridors and by leaning on the railings look down at the panorama of the city as well as look at hills, waters, and rural scenery of Suzhou in the distance.
Suzhou tour to West Garden Temple.
West Garden Temple is Xiyuan Temple in Chinese. It occupied an area of 1.6 acres which constructed in the Yuan Dynasty (1276-1368). Since People's Republic of China, it has been expanded several times. Now it has refurbished the former styles as a blending of garden art and temple art. It's famed 'The Holy Land of Buddhist Altar'.
Start from south of the middle axis line are Arches of three rooms, Mountain Gate, Jingang (diamond) Temple, Fangsheng Pond, Daxiong (grand) Palace, and Sutra Collection Pavilion. When you come out of the Jingang Temple, you can find Arhat Temple on your left and Kwan-yin Temple on your right.
The Arhat Temple has five hundred arhats of different names, different facial expressions. Viewing the whole you will find they are of different ages from old to young, and of different personalities from lionhearted to kindhearted. But these characteristic arhats all have one thing in common. They are regarded as the symbol of power and luck by everyone in all walks of life containing the deep connotation of Chinese Buddhism and Chinese Culture
In the center of the Arhat Temple there is a sculpture of Kwan-yin 13 meters (about 43 feet) high carved by fragrant camphor timber, which has thousands of eyes and hands. The main focus in the temple must be a peculiar figure of Buddha beside the Kwan-yin who has four faces said to represent the four famous mountains of Buddhism.
Next to visit Fangsheng Pond. The name is derived from the Buddhist habit of freeing captive animals. In the center of the pond there is an octagonal pavilion standing erect in the water with mansions, and a bending bridge across the water to create a kind of neat and artful landscape.
Suzhou tour to Lingyanshan Mountain.
Lingyanshan, 15 km southwest in Suzhou's Mudu Township, is a great place for a bicycle outing from the city. During the latter part of Spring and Autumn Period (around 1,500 years ago) , the king of Wu State built a garden on the hilltop, which was the first classical garden constructed on high ground in the world. Lingyanshan stands 182 meters in height, towering over the surrounding low hills, and is easily recognizable from a distance.
Lingyanshan is famous for its craggy stones and gigantic rocks sit on the earth as if they are in a strange planet. It is also a Buddhist sacred place. Yin Guang (1861 – 1940) was a great religious master in Buddhism, and he was the founder of Yin Guang Sect in Southeast Asia. After he died, he had buried here.. Now the main buildings are Jilu Pavilion, Yingxiao Pavilion, Luhong pavilion, Yin Wu Emperor's Well, Flowing Flower Pool, Pool of Playing Moon, Xi Shi (a Chinese Beauty) Cave, etc.
Xi Shi Cave is set inside Luohong Pavilion. It is said Yue State dedicated the well known beauty Xi Shi to the king of Wu State, who was waiting here for the "gift". In later times, people built a house here with a Buddhist statue carved inside the cave, where Buddhist followers liked to flock in and worship. There is an uphill path designated for Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty to climb Lingyanshan, namely The Hundred-step Path, because it needs about 300 steps to reach the top.
Suzhou tour to Luzhi Town.
Luzhi was crowned 'the first water town in China' and 'Museum of Chinese Ancient Bridges.' It's belong to Kunshan city, and 25 kilometers east of Suzhou. Luzhi just cover one square kilometers with more than 1500 years" history.
In this small town, it had 72 bridges at same time. Now still has 41 exist and are well preserved. All of the bridges are different in design and style. Zhengyang Bridge constructed almost 4 hundred years ago which is the biggest stone arch bridge in Luzhi town. It is known for being the first to receive sunshine in the early morning. Dongmei Bridge located on the eastern side of town which a completely round bridge with many Buddhist designs.Luzhi town is noted for its natural beauty. Limpid water goes under the old stone bridges, maidenhair trees wave their hands by wind blowing, old-style dwellings with traditional costumed ladies. Such kind of harmonious' environment attracted many tourists from all over the world. At the same time, some historical spots are also worth to visit such as White Lotus Flower Temple of North Song Dynasty, Baosheng Temple, Wangsheng Rice Shop and Xiao house.Baosheng Temple was constructed in the year of 503. There are nice clay Buddhism arhats sculptured in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) which are still well preserved. These arhats are rare and unique in the whole country. Wansheng Rice Shop was built in 1910. Now it serves as the rice distribution centre for Luzhi and nearby towns. Tourists can view many antique agricultural tools over there.In the Southeast of China, Xiao House is a typical representation. It's built by a rich family in 1889, and covered 1,000 square meters. The house is consists of dozens of rooms. By viewing this house, tourist can feel the previous tenants,life.
Another feature is the distinctive traditional costume worn by the local ladies. Both clothes and trousers are characteristically pieced together using different cotton materials. In addition to wearing these clothes, local women are accustomed to wearing colorful kerchiefs and embroidered shoes.
Suzhou tour to Tongli Town
Tongli Town is a best-preserved water township. It's around 20 km north from Suzhou, built in the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a history of 600 years. Surrounded by several lakes, this small town is divided into 7 parts by the 15 river courses at its midst. To the north of the town is Jiuli Lake, to the east is Tongli Lake, to the south is Nanxing Lake and to the west is Pangshan Lake. The surface of the town is in the shape of a rough circle, surrounded by the inner, middle and outer rivers. The water area occupied one-fifth of the total town area. In the town streets two rivers run parallel to each other.
